Acne Treatment
What You Need To Know About Acne & Acne Treatments
Acne is a skin condition that results from the overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands. While sebum is required to lubricate the skin, it can cause blockages in the oil ducts and give rise to pimples. Hormonal changes also cause the obstruction of sebaceous glands in the skin. The damage that occurs in and around the pilosebaceous unit during an outbreak of acne often causes scarring.
Before Treatment
Before you decide to move forward with an acne or acne scar treatment, we highly recommend booking a complimentary consultation with one of our highly trained Medical Aestheticians. Depending on your individual needs and the condition of your skin, we may recommend either IPL™ (intense pulsed light) treatments, PIXEL® laser treatments, or a combination of both.
During a consultation, our Medical Aesthetician will offer you a skin analysis to determine the most appropriate course of action for you.
IPL™ treatments
Commonly known as photo rejuvenation treatments kill off the Acne P Virus quickly and effectively. IPL™ treatments are also effective at treating a variety of other skin conditions such as Rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. IPL™ technology emits short bursts of a powerful, polychromatic light that penetrate below the surface of the skin in order to target melanin or blood vessels, depending on the type of treatment. The light destroys the melanin or blood vessels and thus destroys things like age spots, spider veins, and acne symptoms. IPL™ can also stimulate collagen production and therefore rejuvenate skin
PIXEL® treatments
The fastest way to deal with scars and hyperpigmentation left behind when acne heals, but can also be beneficial for inflammatory acne. PIXEL® technology is the Gold Standard in scar removal. PIXEL® treatments are used to resurface the skin and remove any damaged skin cells. Fractional, non-ablative resurfacing treatments are the safest, most effective approach to improving skin complexion and removing acne scars on any area of the body. The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the skin condition.
During Light & Laser Treatments
During a PIXEL® or an IPL™ treatment you must wear protective eye wear to prevent damage caused to your eyes. Your Medical Aesthetician will apply a clear gel solution to your skin to protect it and she will adjust the laser to the correct levels for your treatment. It is common for clients to experience a sensation similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin. If you are experiencing discomfort, it is important for you to communicate this with your Medical Aesthetician so that she can adjust the levels of the machine according to your needs.
After Treatment
In some cases redness and irritation (much like a sunburn) may occur after a PIXEL® treatment. There is also a risk of pigment change following treatment. A small minority of patients develop bruising and blistering. This settles within a few days. We recommend booking a complimentary follow-up consultation to discuss your results.

FAQ
Are PIXEL® & IPL™ treatments safe?
PIXEL® and IPL™ treatments have been performed in Canada for 20 years safely by trained Medical Professionals. All treatments performed at LightTouch Med Spa have been approved by Health Canada and the FDA.
How do I know which treatment is most appropriate for me?
During a free consultation, one of our trained Medical Professionals will provide a free skin analysis to determine which treatment would be most appropriate for your skin type and level of skin health.
Are these treatments painful?
This question is difficult to provide an exact answer to, as everyone has a different pain tolerance level. For the most part, intense pulsed light treatments are virtually painless. While PIXEL® treatments often feel like a rubber band is being snapped against the skin. On the whole both treatments are very tolerable.
Will I see results right away?
Everyone has a unique skin type and level of skin health and will experience results differently. With that being said it is more likely that you will see results after one treatment. Depending on the condition of your skin, you may need a series of treatments to see full results.
Can I have my treatment on the same day as my consultation?
Yes! You can receive your treatment on the same day as your complimentary consultation. We do recommend booking enough time for both a consultation and a treatment when booking your appointment, in the case that you do decide to move forward with acne or scar treatments.
How much do acne & acne scar treatments cost?
The cost of your treatment will vary depending on your age, skin type, the severity of your acne and scarring, and whether you choose laser or injection treatments. Every individual has unique needs. Furthermore, everyone has different skin health and will require a varied number of treatments, which will cause the cost to fluctuate.
