Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections

Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections

Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections

With winter in full retreat and the spring season upon us, now is the time to start shedding our winter layers and head outdoors to appreciate the sunshine and warmer weather. But are you finding it hard to hang up your winter hat, for fear that people may notice your thinning hair or receding hairline? Why not obtain Platelet-Rich Plasma injections from us here at LightTouch Med Spa, and feel more confident in yourself this season. Markham residents interested in the healing and hair growth stimulation properties of PRP treatments should continue to read through this article to find out how these injections can help!

Healing Properties

Platelets are a component of our blood containing protein-heavy molecules that are associated with rebuilding and repairing damaged cells within our body. Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is comprised of a concentrated amount of these platelets in a small amount of plasma. This substance is derived from the patient’s own blood and contains growth factors and bioactive proteins that modulate cell growth and activity and regulate differentiated cells. Essentially it stimulates the healing properties of our tissue, making it highly versatile for treatment uses.

Treatment Uses

Here at LightTouch Med Spa we predominantly use PRP therapy at our Markham location to help stimulate hair growth,  treat skin conditions and ailments, and treat other cosmetic related issues. PRP is highly beneficial in reducing dark under-eye circles, puffiness and hollowness, as well as diminishing all types of scars, rejuvenating the skin around the neck and face, and even treating hyperpigmentation. Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments are FDA, and Health Canada approved, making them a safe way to address an array of cosmetic related issues, including hair loss.

Concentrating the Platelets

Upon visiting our facility for your PRP treatment, one of our highly trained certified practitioners will draw blood from your arm. This blood will be placed into a machine known as a centrifuge, which spins the blood tube at high speeds to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. A high amount of platelets, in a small amount of plasma, is the end result, creating this rejuvenating substance to be used for an array of treatments.

Hair Follicle Growth

When it comes to using PRP injections for hair regrowth, our treatments can help to harness the rejuvenating powers of platelets to stimulate hair follicles to grow your hair. Whether you are looking to put a stop to that widow’s peak or receding hairline or would like an overall thicker head of hair than you have now, PRP shots can help. Injections are applied across the scalp, about every half inch of the treated area, to encourage new hair growth, while also preventing further loss of hair.

Treatments and Results

Sessions tend to last only about a half hour, with most of the time being used to concentrate the blood in the centrifuge, with short application times. When it comes to hair growth treatments, there is little to no downtime so you can get back to your regular routine. Treatments should be regularly scheduled once a month, for the first three to four months. How your body responds to the healing properties of PRP will dictate the next step in the treatment process. Anticipated results can be seen after about 3 to 6 months, with the first signs of improvements manifesting just 4 weeks after the application!
