PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatment

Platelet rich plasma, or PRP therapy is a natural method of skin rejuvenation and healing, that is offered at all Light Touch Med Spa locations. We now have clinics in Mississauga, Oakville, Waterloo, Milton, and Markham so that we can better serve the GTA. Read below to learn more about PRP treatments, and what makes them so effective.

PRP is highly beneficial in treating many skin conditions and ailments, including:

  • Dark under-eye circles, puffiness, or hollows
  • Eliminating scars (surgical scars, acne, stretch marks, etc)
  • Rejuvenating the skin on the neck and face
  • Treating hyperpigmentation
  • Stimulating new hair growth

Why is PRP So Effective?

PRP is a highly effective long-term solution to healing most skin conditions and hair loss. What makes platelet rich plasma therapy so effective, is the fact that we are using your own body’s healing agents, as opposed to any foreign agent that your body may reject or react negatively to.

What is PRP therapy, and how does it work?

This procedure is beneficial for individuals who are looking to treat a wide variety of skin conditions and ailments. This treatment entails our nurse practitioner taking one vial of blood from you during your appointment, and placing the vial in a centrifuge so that it can undergo a spin process. We use a double-spin centrifugal process that takes approximately 20 minutes, so that your white blood cells will separate from the plasma. The result is that when the vial emerges from the centrifuge, it appears to be a clear, gold liquid. Our nurse will then re-inject your white blood cells and plasma into the area that you are having treated.

The plasma will aid in directing your white blood cells to the affected area, and your white blood cells (healing agents) will then begin the healing process. The platelets contain growth factors that promote healing of damaged or aging skin, by way of triggering surrounding cells to proliferate and repair any damages.

Platelet rich plasma treatments have been approved by the FDA and Health Canada, and our staff is highly experienced with this type of injectable treatment. There is little downtime with PRP treatments, however, those who are having the treatment in sensitive areas such as the scalp or face are advised to use numbing agents before coming in for treatments. With that being said, it is not a requirement, as we do offer numbing agents at our Light Touch Med Spa clinics, and in addition, we ice the area while the centrifugal process is taking place (for approximately 20 minutes).

What can clients expect?

When used for skin care, clients typically see an immediate brightening of the skin, with visible tightness after the first treatment. Many clients repeat the procedure 2-3 times, as we find that individuals see best results after three treatments. For individuals who are seeking PRP for hair growth, you can expect to start seeing a thickening of the hair within a 2-3 month period. We recommend having several treatments to strengthen the hair and follicles. In turn, PRP treatments rejuvenate the scalp, creating a healthier environment for new hair growth to take place.

Clients may experience slight bruising and tenderness after treatments, however, most often individuals can resume daily activities immediately after treatment.
