Skin Pigmentation

What You Need To Know About Skin Pigmentation Treatments

Skin pigmentation affects many individuals of all ages and skin types. Often, as we age, we begin to see a slight discolouration of the skin, which most commonly appears on the face, decolletage, hands, and arms. With today’s outdoor lifestyle, sun-damaged skin is very common in men and women alike. Our goal at LightTouch Med Spa is to help you improve the overall appearance and health of your skin with our skin pigmentation treatments. Book a free consultation for more information on our skin pigmentation treatments, and read below to learn about LightTouch Med Spa!

Technology

IPL™ treatments, commonly known as photo rejuvenation treatments effectively treat skin conditions such as Rosacea quickly. IPL™ treatments are also effective at treating a variety of skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. IPL™ technology emits short bursts of a powerful, polychromatic light that penetrate below the surface of the skin in order to target melanin or blood vessels, depending on the type of treatment. The light destroys the melanin or blood vessels and thus destroys things like age spots and hyperpigmentation, spider veins, and acne symptoms. IPL™ can also stimulate collagen production and therefore rejuvenate skin.

Before Treatment

Before you decide to move forward with a skin pigmentation treatment, we highly recommend booking a complimentary consultation with one of our highly trained Medical Aestheticians. During a consultation, our Medical Aesthetician will offer you a skin analysis to determine the most appropriate course of action for you.

During Treatment

During an IPL™ treatment you must wear protective eyewear to prevent damage caused to your eyes. Your Medical Aesthetician will apply a clear gel solution to your skin to protect it and she will adjust the laser to the correct levels for your treatment. It is common for clients to experience a warming sensation or a sensation similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin. If you are experiencing discomfort, it is important for you to communicate this with your Medical Aesthetician so that she can adjust the levels of the machine according to your needs.

After Treatment

In some cases redness and irritation (much like a sunburn) may occur after an IPL™ treatment. You can expect a slight change in pigment after your treatment. The number of treatments needed will vary depending on age, skin health, and severity of skin pigmentation. A small minority of clients develop bruising or swelling. This settles within a few days. We recommend booking a complimentary follow-up consultation to discuss your results.

FAQ

Are skin pigmentation treatments safe?

The advanced skin care treatments that we provide have been performed in Canada for 20 years safely by trained Medical Aestheticians. All treatments performed at LightTouch Med Spa have been approved by Health Canada.

Who will be treating me?

One of our highly trained medical aestheticians will be conducting your treatment. In addition to formal education, our practitioners continually attend training seminars. We believe in ongoing education so that we can provide you with the best service possible.

How do I know which treatment is most appropriate for me?

We encourage you to book a complimentary consultation with a medical aesthetician who can assess you and determine which treatment would be appropriate for you based on your skin type, age, and the severity of your skin pigmentation.

Are these treatments painful?

This question is difficult to provide an exact answer to, as everyone has a different pain tolerance level. For the most part, skin pigmentation treatments are relatively painless and can feel like a slight rubber band snap against the skin. Most clients claim that the treatment is very tolerable.

How long do treatments last for?

Treatments typically last between 30-45 minutes. If you plan on having a treatment during the same appointment as your initial consultation, be sure to book an extra 30 minutes so that your medical aesthetician has enough time to dedicate to both your consultation and treatment.

Will I see results right away?

This will vary from person to person. The number of treatments needed will vary depending on the severity of your skin pigmentation.

How much do skin pigmentation treatments cost?

The cost of your skin pigmentation can vary depending on the severity of your skin pigmentation and number of treatments needed. Everyone has different skin health and will require a varied number of treatments, which will cause the cost to fluctuate. We recommend booking a free consultation with a medical aesthetician to determine the cost of your treatment.

Are there contraindications for skin pigmentation treatments?

⦁ Recent sun exposure and/or sunburn

⦁ If you plan to be in direct sunlight after treatment, we highly recommend waiting until a time when you will not be exposed to the sun

⦁ Pregnancy

⦁ If you have the Herpes virus IPL™ treatments can cause flare-up
